Suicide remains the biggest killer of those under 35 in the UK. On average, over five young people take their lives each day and over 200 schoolchildren are lost to suicide every year.
We only learned of this terrifying fact because our young sons took their lives, all within the last 3 years. Our loss and shock is all encompassing but, with the support of PAPYRUS, we are raising awareness by walking over 200 miles for all those young people as well as our boys, who are lost every year. Our aim is to help prevent other families from being devastated by suicide, particularly as research shows that with appropriate early intervention and support like that offered by PAPYRUS, suicide by young people can be prevented.
Our walk is about HOPE, something that is key to what we want to achieve for our boys and for other young people. We begin in Seb and Liz’s hometown of Madeley, Cheshire on Friday 22nd September 2023, then walking to Hayden and Kim’s home city of London, whilst finishing in Maxi and Michelle’s hometown of Sandwich, Kent on Sunday 8th October 2023.
Watch the three mums talking about their boys and the walk on BBC breakfast from Tuesday 19th September here.
Please join us and follow our walk by clicking on the tracker below. And please give whatever you can on our JustGiving page; again, click the link to donate on the website and pledge whatever you can. Any amount could make a difference to a young person and their families’ lives.
